Day 14
First sightseeing day at Savannah, GA

On our first full day in Savannah, we took the Old Town Trolly Tour which provides a guided tour of the city. It's a great way to get an introduction to the history and layout of Savannah. They run every 20 minutes along the route, and you can get an all-day ticket so you can get on and off as many times as you want.

The layout of Savannah is a grid with a series of squares which contain a little park. They each have their unique charm and are a collection of mini-oasis in the city. Besides the trees, shrubs, and flowers, there are statues and plaques honoring the people and events that shaped Savannah's history.

Many of the squares are surrounded by old mansions, several of them open for public tours.

We visited the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum which is located in the restored Scarbrough House. It has a nice collection of ship models and nautical items from the early days of the Atlantic trade and travel.
