I spent the night in Holbrook at the Wigwam Motel, per Pam's suggestion. Thanks Pam,
that was a great idea! They were built in the 1930's and it is a great piece of Route 66
history. I met two guys from England that were doing the Route 66 tour, taking pictures
for a book they are working on. They were taking pictures in the motel compound. I
offered to let them take some pictures of the interior of the wigwam I was staying in and
they graciously accepted.
I was a little worried about how bad the noise from the trains would be. The tracks are a
stones throw away, right behind the motel lot. Fortunately, there was a old motel structure
in between the wigwams and the track. I noticed just a slight rumble as the trains went by,
but that just added a nice little touch to the overall experience.
There are vintage cars outside of each wigwam. Most of them are in pretty bad shape, but
I thought it added a lot to the overall atmosphere.
Here is a link to the Wigwam Motel where you can see some more pictures and read about its
history.
